計画から建造まで紆余曲折あったのですが、15インチ砲（ビスマルクの主砲）の開発製造に時間がかかることからドイチュラントの11インチ砲を長砲身化したものを搭載しました。

結局のこの11インチ砲搭載というのがシャルンホルスト級の最大の特徴かつ弱点となりました。基準排水量3万トンクラスの戦艦の中では火力が絶対的に不足している戦艦となりました。

There were twists and turns from planning to construction, but since it took time to develop and manufacture a 15-inch gun (Bismarck’s main gun), we installed a longer barrel of Deutschland’s 11-inch gun.

After all, this 11-inch gun was the biggest feature and weakness of the Scharnhorst class. Among the battleships with the standard displacement of 30,000 tons, the battleship has absolutely insufficient firepower.

でもそれは実用面での話で兵器としての見栄え的にはシャルンホルストはその三連装砲と細長い船体、それに砲架式の副砲をこの時代に搭載するなど、優美でありながら危うさを秘めたなんとも魅力的な船である事は間違いありません

ビスマルクなども発売しているフライホークのキットです。同社の特徴の優れたディテールを堪能できるキットです。もちろん、全メーカーがフライホークの方向性である必要はないと思います。

　フライホークの純正エッチングと木甲板シートを組み込みました。

製作と塗装

このキットはシャルンホルストの最終時の塗装になっていますが。個人的にこの時の塗装が好みではないので最終時よりも少し前のスピッツベルゲン島砲撃の状態にしています。主砲砲塔上部は別の色の可能性もあるのですが、実際撮影して画像処理してみるとこの塗装でも特に矛盾はなさそうが気がしました。

This kit is the final painting of Scharnhorst. Personally, I don’t like the painting at this time, so I am in the state of the Spitsbergen bombardment a little before the final time. The upper part of the main turret may have a different color, but when I actually took a picture and processed the image, I felt that there was no particular contradiction in this painting.
